The King Charles III Stakes is a newly-crowned event that has been rebranded from the race formerly known as the George Main Stakes. The George Main was previously held in September, but in 2023 the race has had an injection of prizemoney and been moved to add further substance and glamour to The Everest raceday.

There was no doubt the old George Main had its share of gun horses win the race, including Kingston Town twice, Vo Rogue, Lonhro, Winx three times, Verry Elleegant and Anamoe, but it was always more of a lead-up race to greater things than an actual target. That has now surely changed by moving into a prime position in the spring carnival, and we can expect the honour roll to expand with a glittering array of stars moving forward.
