The Golden Eagle has been the second most successful race, behind The Everest of course, invented under the watch of renegade Racing NSW CEO Peter V’landys. It’s a fantastic concept, limiting the race to only four-year-old’s, and a great deal of interest is had each year watching that age group as they plot their way through the Melbourne and Sydney spring carnivals towards their ultimate target.

While there have only been four runnings so far, all winners in the 20 horse field have drawn barrier 10 or under, and also jumped at a starting price of $10 or less. It has also been a race for elite horses, with each winner going on to further Group 1 glory after their Golden Eagle win.
