There is a fair gap in from the top three in the market to the field, and whilst on figures that seems pretty spot on, there is one runner in particular I think can do something more than is being portrayed in early markets.

GARZA BLANCA resumes gelded, trialling up in very neat fashion leading in, and I believe the now 5YO can progress his figure to true black type ratings.

He has genuinely consistent figures and was tried up the straight at 1200m in late 23′, being far from disgraced despite how the form guide reads.

Obviously involves some speculation, as he does need to elevate to match the top few, but I infer he can and have warmed to the 1000m kick off behind what looks a very genuine tempo.

Pay to forgive RUNNING BY last start on a genuinely affected track. Her last peak came 3Up and Randwick, and in a figure that has her hard to beat here.

She resumed at Caulfield in strong figures before tailing right off in the going last start at Flemington in the going.

My main reservation is the mile, however that is as bigger a query for most, so I am happy to be on side.

Flemington R8 - 2500m Crown Oaks G1

The Wakeful Stakes is traditionally a very strong lead up to the Oaks, with over 50% of winners coming through the race to salute in the past thirty years.

POWERS OF OPAL and TREASURE THE MOMENT were the two hard in betting in the Wakeful, finishing 1-2, however to the opposite of the market order.

I doubt POWERS OF OPAL was suited by the race shape, however TREASURE THE MOMENT did have a similar profile.

POWERS OF OPAL had the bigger acceleration figure and did find the line just a smidge better, not much, but enough. Coupled with a gear tinker, I am leaning that way.

HARLEM QUEEN and PLEASURE ARTIST bring the Champion Stakes form behind EL CASTELLO, who has since run very well in the Vic derby, recording top race mid and closing figures.

I am sticking with the Wakeful form line, anticipating POWERS OF OPAL has the best scope to improve getting to 2500m.
