No depth to the race, so happy to look at the first-starter, READY TO ROCKET. Niggle is she is a 4YO with staggered trials leading in. She did enough to think she has a fair to good level of ability.

ROMAN SONG is one I can get a little tighter, but in saying that, she is a 15 start maiden. She will again be competitive.

SIR TOM was an outlier after being snicked back from the wide draw last start. Form and figures only fair from the race.

BETHSHEBA walked them and couldn’t stave off those in behind. Given the soft lead, she was entitled to do more.

Another race of very little depth, and in the same vain, I am looking to a first-starter, IRISH JIG, who has done plenty enough at the trials to think he can do something on debut.

Scratched from the Canterbury meeting yesterday in favour of this, and so long as forward enough in condition, I think he is the horse they all have to beat.

Enough in the price of PIONEER LASS to have me interested. Her first-up record is solid, particularly last prep, recording a figure that has her hard to hold out here.

She improved in both trials this time in work after just a look around in late August. Resuming off an extended spell.

FIDDLERS GREEN is the horse to beat, also resuming, and has also trialled up very well. Set up well and hard to knock.

NETTLES is becoming a costly horse to follow and I thought plain enough to leave here.

Hawkesbury R8 - 1100m Clarendon Tavern BM64

I was with DARK GLITTER against the market fancies when second-up last start, and whilst she does bump into a couple of good ones again, I do think she is very good value to them.

She arguably beats Rantan last start, bottled up behind that runner at 1000m. I am weighting her improvement from her first prep to this time in being confirmed, trending up, and I expect can peak here at 1100m.

PRIVATE HARRY obviously has upside, winning in very neat fashion on debut. The 900m to 1100m is not my favourite profile, but he did do enough to suggest it shouldn’t be a strong query.

APIC RUN is a handy enough runner resuming and has to go in exotics. GLASSOUT next.
