With Queensland not hosting any races at the highest level in spring or summer, the Doomben 10,000 is the first Group 1 of the season for the sunshine state, and marks the official start of the Brisbane winter carnival.
The Brisbane Racing Club has upped the prizemoney for the Doomben 10,000 in recent times, and the honour roll reflects it. Five of the last six winners have performed in an Everest either before or after their victory, and with the exception of Mazu who still has plenty of racing in him, all six are multiple Group 1 winners.
It has become a proper good horses race, and it’s increasingly rare that the winner won’t have been racing in the Sydney autumn carnival.
