The Queensland Oaks has had more success in the last decade or so in producing quality horses from their winners than the male counterpart, the Queensland Derby run a week earlier.
Winx will always be the most famous filly to have won the Oaks, in what was the only time she raced at more than a mile and a quarter. The four time Cox Plate winner was kept to 2040m as her maximum distance once she become an older mare.
In 2021, we saw Duais claim the Queensland Oaks, and she went onto win the Australian Cup and Tancred Stakes as a four-year-old. 2018 winner Youngstar and 2017 winner Egg Tart both went on to be placed at Group 1 level at four. Eskimo Queen won a Coolmore Classic the season after her Oaks win in 2007. And of course Ethereal remains the last horse to win the Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup double, which came after her win in the 2001 Queensland Oaks.
