The Rosehill Guineas is a historic and prestigious Group 1 race for three-year-olds, run over 2000m under Set-Weights conditions at Rosehill Racecourse. With a prize pool of $750,000, the race is a key feature of Golden Slipper Day, sharing the spotlight with other Group 1 events such as the Golden Slipper, George Ryder Stakes, Ranvet Stakes, and The Galaxy, making it one of the most significant race days of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
First contested in 1910 and won by Electric Wire, the race has evolved over time, starting as a 1400-metre event before settling at its current 2000-metre distance in 1948. It achieved Group 1 status in 1980, further cementing its reputation as a premier event for middle-distance three-year-olds. The Rosehill Guineas is also the second leg of Sydney’s three-year-old Triple Crown, nestled between the Randwick Guineas (1600m) and the Australian Derby (2400m). Only five horses, including champions like Octagonal and It’s a Dundeel, have completed the coveted Triple Crown.
The race boasts a storied honor roll of past winners, featuring legends like Phar Lap, Ajax, Tulloch, Dulcify, and Tie The Knot. Its significance as a proving ground for future Group 1 stars reinforces its importance on the Australian racing calendar.
