The Doncaster Mile is one of the most presigious races in Australia, and the biggest race over 1600m this country has. It’s a special handicap that has the likes of Winx, Sunline and Super Impose on the honour roll.
Handicap racing is special to Australia, from the big staying Cups that every city has (highlighted by the Melbourne Cup of course), all the way down to sprint races like the Newmarket Handicap and Oakleigh Plate. The Doncaster sits comfortably with all of these, and in fact above most.
Most horses that win a Doncaster go onto bigger and better things. Always keep an eye out for a rising three-year-old, usually carrying around 50kg’s, given the great record that generation has in the race.
