The Invitation is one of the more recent additions to the Sydney spring program, with all runners invited to run in the race by Racing NSW. The field comprises of 12 runners, to be made up of fillies and mares only, and run over 1400m at Randwick.

The race is supposed to enhance the Spring Champion Stakes support card, and also add more weight to the Sydney spring in-between the huge successes of The Everest and Golden Eagle. There is no doubt that the powers-that-be at Racing NSW would have hoped for the race to make more of a splash than it has in the early days.
