We again send runners into battle across four states this weekend, headlined by Promises Kept in the Group 1 Queensland Derby, where he is hoping to go one better following a tough second in the SA equivalent a fortnight back.

8. Axzelina | J: Ms Linda MeechAxzelina steps out here on debut after a pleasing trial over the 800m at Werribee last week, on what was a very heavy track. Here over the 1000m with Linda Meech to ride, we’ll look to ride her where she’s comfortable with just the one turn to navigate. We think she’s a city-grade horse but will certainly improve off this, in what is an open race.

11. Links | J: John AllenLinks is our second runner stepping out here on debut, having won her trial at Werribee over the same 800m trip last week, having relished the heavy going. In an open race with plenty of speed, we’ll look to go back to the second half of the field from the wide gate, from where we hope to see her peel wide and go through her gears, hitting the line well, similar to her trial.
