One of our newer imports, Warm Smile, continues her first Australian prep here over 1600m, with Ben Allen to again ride. She was given time to recover after a flat run two starts back, which perhaps told in her latest start, peaking on her run in the final furlong. From barrier 10, Ben will likely be midfield hoping for cover with Flash Mary, Prada Gossip and Thought Provoking pushing up. She will need luck, but we have her as hard at beat.
DANGERS: 2. DEFIANT DIVA, 5. THOUGHT PROVOKING
A decision will be made as to whether we’re running. If Senegalia does start, she’ll be stepping back to the 1000m in benchmark company with Carleen Hefel to again ride after a gutsy performance last start, running to within 1.5L of Veranskova. From barrier 10, Carleen will need plenty of luck in running, but it will be a just-watch race for us.
DANGERS: 3. RANVEER, 11. SQUAD, 6. SOJUSTKOBY
Another import, Convener, steps out here for his second Australian start after a frustrating but impressive debut. The pilot that day perhaps zigged when he should have zagged, before ducking back to the inside to nearly pinch the win, It was particularly impressive given he was first up off a six-month break and well below his preferred trip. Blake Shinn rides today and, from barrier 13 with enough speed in the race, will look to have him midfield with cover. Can certainly win, but the market hasn’t missed him off that debut run.
DANGERS: 2. GOLDEN CRUSADER, 3. CLAIDHEAMH MOR, 9, TOBAYSURE

Our German import, Sky Out, runs here second up after his debut Australian run in the Warracknabeal Cup. Up to a more suitable trip here over 2000m, Johnny Allen will look to ride him where he is comfortable, likely to be toward the tail, before hopefully running on and hitting the line well. Will want further.
DANGERS: 7. CONVENOR, 2. GOLDEN CRUSADER, 3. CLAIDHEAMH MOR, 9, TOBAYSURE
Montather returns here second-up, after what was effectively a track gallop first-up. He will have taken plenty of benefit from that run, despite the circumstances of the race preventing us from giving him a more complete hit out. Up to the 1200m and in weaker class, from barrier 11, Johnny Allen will need to assess the race quickly seeking cover. She’s shown improvement in her work but where she stacks up here is largely an unknown.
DANGERS: 11. MISS MIDDLE PARK, 1. DO YA PUNK, 3. EXTREME FLIGHT, 4. MAMARAGAN, 5. OUR REDENTE

A month between runs, Miss Middle Park returns here with Mick Dee to ride. In what was a very pleasing run last start, she hit the line with the fastest last 600 and 400 metres of the race, achieving a new career peak rating, going down under a length to a horse Cindy Alderson has a high opinion of. From barrier 5, Mick will look to have her midfield with cover given likely good speed in the race. In an open race, we have her as an EW chance.
DANGERS: 1. DO YA PUNK, 3. EXTREME FLIGHT, 4. MAMARAGAN, 5. OUR REDENTE
Harry Coffey jumped off wondering how Lethal Thoughts had run to within 2L of the winner last start in the Bendigo Guineas over 1400m, declaring he’d lost interest in the run before building momentum in the final furlong, and working through the line well. Up to a more suitable 1600m and with the blinkers and tongue tie going on here, Blake Shinn will look to ride him where he is comfortable, likely to be midfield with cover. He’s at peak fitness in a similar field to last start, and if Blake can extract what we know he is capable of, he is an EW chance.
DANGERS: 3. WALTZ ON BY, 2. GRAND PIERRO, 1. ELKINGTON ROAD, 9. KING SAMUEL
After a last start win, breaking a winless run dating back to December 2020, we’re hopeful She’s All Class is back to her best. She worked well on Tuesday, with our data suggesting she’s come on well since that run. She should be ready to run well here on her way through to an appearance in the Brisbane Winter Carnival, with the stable again partnering up with Blake Shinn, who will look to track the leading pair, Jigsaw and Turk Warrior. The favourite will be hard to beat, but we’re definitely a top three chance.
DANGERS: 1. JIGSAW
Despite the picket fence coming to an end last start in the G3 Easter Cup, Right You Are lost no admirers going down to the early Melbourne Cup favourite on a surface Ben Allen felt wasn’t to his advantage. The horse worked well during the week and would not have blown a candle out in preparation for stepping up to the 2400m for the first time. From barrier 10, Ben again takes the ride here, and will look to be positive from the gates, giving the rest something to run down. He’s sure to be thereabouts again.
DANGERS: 1. VOW AND DECLARE, 3. NONCONFORMIST, 5. HEZASHOCKA

The second of the stable representatives in this year’s instalment of the Mornington Cup, Herman Hesse jumps out here after going down a half-length in the Yarra Valley Cup over a lesser preferred 1950m trip. Off a hurdle trial over 2400m in between, and from barrier 3, Mick Dee will look to be positive and have him just behind the speed, which looks to be genuine. Being one run short of his grand final this prep, he will come on from this and be rock hard fit next time out. We see him running a place, at best.
DANGERS: 6. RIGHT YOU ARE, 1. VOW AND DECLARE, 3. NONCONFORMIST, 5. HEZASHOCKA
Strawberry Rock returns to the races here off two trials, where he was able work to the line nicely in good closing splits without being asked for much in the latest of the two. There doesn’t appear to be a huge amount of speed here, with the pace coming from Cognac, Zakeriz and Highballer pushing forward. From the outside gate, Brenton Avdulla will look to ease him back and get him into a nice rhythm. He has a good fitness base but will take improvement from the run, and with this being well short of his ideal trip, we’ll be happy to see him strong late, hitting the line well.
DANGERS: 4. UNSPOKEN, 6. PRETTY AMAZING, 8. AUSBRED FLIRT, 14. DEMARCAY
After a casual 515-day break following a fourth in the 2021 edition of the Melbourne Cup, we too were surprised to see Floating Artist go close to winning over 1400m on his return. That run rated only a length below his career-best rating, running the fourth-best last 400m of the meeting, and the fastest last 800, 600, 400 and 200 metres of the race. He’s since settled in well to our Warwick Farm operation with today’s pilot, Jason Collett, getting a good feel for him during the week. His action was super and recovery excellent, confirming he’s ready to run a big race here. We’ll monitor the track to see how it’s playing, but from barrier 12 with not a lot of speed, we’ll look to be positive from the gates to sit behind the leaders, likely to be Hosier, Wild Chap and Kiss The Bride. We agree with market here.
DANGERS: 7. HOPEFUL, 8. NEW MANDATE
Royal Merchant has covered some ground, with SA the third jurisdiction she’ll have plied her trade in this prep. She gets in well at the weights here, with Dean Yendall making the trip to take the ride. From barrier 4, we’ll look to push forward and be hard to run down. She always tries and is sure to be thereabouts again, in with a winning chance.
DANGERS: 9. CASTE
First up for the stable, Seven Veils returns to the races after seven months off. After competing at group level the past five starts, she steps out here after a good jump out. From barrier 15, Dean Yendall will look to ride her where she’s comfortable, likely to be midfield with cover with good speed in the race. We see James Cummings’ horse as being hard to beat, and are going there hopeful rather than confident.
DANGERS: 3. RENOSU, 4. DOULL, 6. REDZOUST, 5. I'MLOVIN'YA
It’s a much smaller contingent for the stable this Saturday but hopefully we have a bit of luck. All the best to our connections.
A small team heads to Doomben this Saturday. Transatlantic aims to back up his impressive last start win in race five and Star Of Chaos takes on stablemate Brentwood in the last. Good luck to all connections! Gollan Racing Team
We’ll hope to keep the good times rolling and have a huge hand entered to do just that, headlined by ESTRIELLA in the Sunlight Classic, PRIDE OF JENNI doing battle in the Australian Cup, RUTHLESS DAME in the Emancipation, ASHRUN in the Tancred and ANOTHER WIL and BERKSHIRE SHADOW in the Doncaster Prelude. Good luck […]
