This Saturday sees the official start to the Queensland Racing Winter Carnival for 2023. We head to Eagle Farm for a huge nine race card featuring the Group 2 Queensland Guineas and Victory Stakes. Baller is back from his Melbourne Autumn campaign and will take his place in the Victory Stakes, Antino will be looking to continue on his Stradbroke Handicap path and King Kapa shoots for his fifth straight win.

16. Typhoon Taavi | J: Ms Angela JonesTyphoon Taavi is second up after a dominant first up win at Doomben earlier this month. She goes up in grade, but we believe she is good enough to feature in black type races later in the winter. She has the early speed to overcome the draw and with the light weight, will be very hard to run down.
DANGERS: 3. MANHOOD, 11. HATCHET
3. King Kapa | J: Ryan MaloneyKing Kapa is first up after a faultless first preparation for the stable. He has trialled nicely in preparation for this and only needs to hold his form to keep his unbeaten record for the stable. We believe he is destined for better races in the carnival and should extend his winning streak to five here.
DANGERS: 1. OSAMU, 10. RICHON
4. Chairman | J: Damien ThorntonChairman was terrific coming from the back of the field to win at Caloundra last start. He goes to Saturday grade here, but this does look like a race of only a few chances. He has improved from that run and the step up to 1300m will suit him. He maps to get a nice run from the draw and will be one of the main chances.

2. Standing Order | J: Ryan MaloneyStanding Order was very good when leading all the way to win by a big margin at Ipswich last start. His form early in his career shows he is good enough for these races and if he can improve off his last start win, he is certainly a top three chance.

3. Princess Rhaenys | J: Ms Angela JonesPrincess Rhaenys is first-up for the stable after running in some strong races in Melbourne last preparation. She has great form for a race like this and her trial at Doomben shows she is sharp enough to race well over the 1600m. She will improve with the run but looks well placed to run a big race here.
DANGERS: 9. BALTIC COAST, 18. YASUKE
6. Antino | J: James OrmanAntino did a terrific job to win from a tricky position first up here two weeks ago. He has improved from that run and gets to the more suitable 1400m. Jimmy Orman will need to give him yet another good ride from the tricky barrier, but with even luck, he looks the winner again.

3. Palladas | J: Ms Angela JonesPalladas ran on nicely resuming here over 1200m a fortnight ago. He will be closer in the run from the nice barrier and the step up to 1400m brings him right into this race. The stablemate is certainly the one to beat, but Palladas is his main danger.

5. Baller | J: Ryan MaloneyBaller is back home after having two runs in Melbourne in the autumn. He trialled at Doomben earlier this month to tick over nicely for his winter carnival preparation. His two course proper gallops since his trial show he is back to his best and we expect him to run accordingly. Although this is a very strong Victory Stakes, his best form is good enough to be a top three chance here.
DANGERS: 1. PRIVATE EYE, 2. A CASE OF YOU, 8. PRINCE OF BOOM
14. Rising Pacific | J: Ryan MaloneyRising Pacific is first-up for the stable after a nice trial at Deagon last week. He won over 1600m in New Zealand back in February and is bred to get over further. This is the perfect race to kick him off in with the hope of getting him to the Queensland Derby. Some of these might be a bit sharp for him over the mile, but he will be hitting the line and looking for the 2000m in the Rough Habit in a fortnight.
