Heman won well on debut, and I think the step up to 1300m will suit him. He is a very laid-back horse with a lot of potential, and it wouldn’t surprise me to if he pulls out a big run on Saturday.
DANGERS: 9. QUEEN OF DRAGONS, 5. ABOUNDING

The strong tempo worked against Queen of Dragons last start. On Saturday, she has drawn well and I would like to see this race run to allow her to travel conservatively, allowing her to be finishing off strongly. She is a filly with a lot of potential, and I think she can be very competitive in a race like this.
DANGERS: 5. ABOUNDING, 4. HEMAN
It would be great to see Ranges repeat his winning performance in this race last year. This year, he has drawn awkwardly but I’d still like to see him find spot on, or just behind the speed. I thought his run at the Sunshine Coast had merit considering he came from bad barrier. He is always game to the line, and I think he is among the chances.
DANGERS: 15. KING KAPA, 16. MANHOOD
Huetor has trained on well since his win in the Doomben Cup. The horse is looking and feeling very well heading into Saturday. I think the race sets up quite well for him, and it would be great to see him run well to round off his Brisbane campaign.
DANGERS: 2. NUMERIAN, 12. DUAIS
Snapback was enormous in the Sires, when narrowly beaten after travelling three wide with no cover. It is his first start over a mile so there is a little query whether he can run the distance. In saying that, he is a very relaxed horse that conserves a lot of energy which I think will definitely help him in a race like this. If he can run well at this distance, it opens a lot of doors for him in the spring.
DANGERS: 14. AZULA, 6. TANNHAUSER, 4. MAKE A CALL

Make A Call was luckless and untested last start. The Sydney two-year-old form looks very appealing heading in to the JJ. He has met tougher opposition and run very well. He is a horse that thrives with racing, and he was always going to need the run in the Sires to have him ready for the JJ Atkins. He has trained on well and we know he can run the distance which is a big positive.
DANGERS: 14. AZULA, 6. TANNHAUSER, 3. SNAPBACK
Sheeza Belter has been going very well at home. To be honest, she hasn’t had a lot go her way in her runs since winning the JJ Atkins last year. That being said, she is one tough filly, and you can expect her to put in a brave performance.
DANGERS: 15. OPAL RIDGE, 7. MIRRA VISION, 6. REVOLUTIONARY MISS

Revolutionary Miss has a lot of talent, and I am interested to see how she performs on Saturday. It was great to see her return to the winners circle earlier this year. She always tries hard and performs well in top quality races – I expect Saturday to be no different.
DANGERS: 15. OPAL RIDGE, 7. MIRRA VISION, 3. SHEEZA BELTER

Mirra Vision is a classy mare who heads to Brisbane in terrific order. She has been set for this race, with a view to continuing on to the Tattersall’s Tiara in two week’s time. I do think she will take improvement from the run, but her competitive nature will take her a long way on Saturday.
DANGERS: 15. OPAL RIDGE, 3. SHEEZA BELTER, 6. REVOLUTIONARY MISS

Tycoon Evie was luckless last start - it was her race to win and she was just a sitting duck late. In saying that, you can’t fault her effort or attitude, she always tries her hardest. Since her last run, she has had a little break and it has done her the world of good. She is looking and feeling well, and after Saturday will likely head toward the Tiara.
DANGERS: 15. OPAL RIDGE, 7. MIRRA VISION, 3. SHEEZA BELTER, 6. REVOLUTIONARY MISS
It certainly wasn’t a fluke winning first-up. Mafia is a colt with a very relaxed nature, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him make the leap to city grade. We have a great rider in Damien Oliver engaged, and I am looking forward to seeing how he performs.
DANGERS: 5. LISTENTOZOU, 3. ALTRUIST
Sovereign Fund heads to Randwick on Saturday looking for his first win this preparation. I thought his first-up run on a bottomless track under a big weight was enormous. Last start, doing too much early cost him at the back end of the race. Saturday sees him drop back in class, and the claim will certainly assist him. We don’t want to see a heavy track but I expect to see him run very well.
DANGERS: 7. ROYAL TRIBUTE, 3. OZZMOSIS
Last start didn’t go to plan for Growl. He was poleaxed at the start, and it hampered his chances right from the jump. The blinkers go back on, and expect to see him be a big improver.
DANGERS: 2. IOWNA MERC, 6. PLUNDERING
Miss Dior returns to the races after a long break. I was very happy with her trials, and her work here at home suggests she is ready to run well. She certainly doesn’t want it too wet, and I anticipate that she is going to take a lot of benefit from the run, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see her run well on Saturday.
DANGERS: 11. PASSEGGIATA, 8. PENTHOUSE
Forzanini has a good first-up record, and has trialled well in the lead-up to Saturday. It is a strong field, but she is a mare that always tries hard and I can see her running well.
DANGERS: 5. CONSCRIPT, 13. WEWILLROCK
The step up to 1400 should suit Asva. He will appreciate the big track at Newcastle, and his second-up stats suggest we should see some improvement.
DANGERS: 3. COSMIC LEGEND, 1. AFTERBOOMER
Reggie’s Folly has come back in great order, and I think that showed in his trials. We have him a little more forward first-up this time than he has been in previous preparations. From the gate, expect him to get back and be hitting the line strongly.
DANGERS: 7. MEDIARO, 2. LORD HERON
It’s a much smaller contingent for the stable this Saturday but hopefully we have a bit of luck. All the best to our connections.
A small team heads to Doomben this Saturday. Transatlantic aims to back up his impressive last start win in race five and Star Of Chaos takes on stablemate Brentwood in the last. Good luck to all connections! Gollan Racing Team
We’ll hope to keep the good times rolling and have a huge hand entered to do just that, headlined by ESTRIELLA in the Sunlight Classic, PRIDE OF JENNI doing battle in the Australian Cup, RUTHLESS DAME in the Emancipation, ASHRUN in the Tancred and ANOTHER WIL and BERKSHIRE SHADOW in the Doncaster Prelude. Good luck […]
