Empire of Japan heads to Doomben first-up off the back of a freshen up. I was happy with his trial and the horse is looking and feeling well. I feel he is suited to the 1200m, he just needs speed in his races to allow him to showcase his brilliant turn of foot. On paper, Saturday’s race looks like it should be run to suit him.
DANGERS: 2. SOVEREIGN FUND, 5. THE KING, 10. APPIN GIRL

I was very happy with Sovereign Fund’s first-up performance at Rosehill. Being a stakes winner, he had to carry the big weight of 60.5Kg on what was a very heavy track, and I can’t fault him on how he has conducted himself since. He needed the run at Rosehill to have him ready for Saturday’s assignment, and from the soft draw he should be able to dictate where he wants to position himself.

The King heads to Doomben fresh off the back of a stylish maiden win. There is no denying that he is a beautiful horse and is one that we have always had a bit of an opinion of. Obviously, this week’s assignment is a significant step up in grade, but we are interested to see how he handles the test. We do think we will see more of his talent as he steps out over seven furlongs and possibly up to a mile - so he is one to follow. On Saturday, we hope to see him finish off strongly and be right in the mix.
DANGERS: 1. EMPIRE OF JAPAN, 2. SOVEREIGN FUND, 10. APPIN GIRL
Mazu returns to Queensland for a lovely rendition of the Doomben 10,000. It is a very solid field - as you would expect. There is a lot of speed in this race, particularly from the likes of Overpass and Prince of Boom, so from the barrier, he should be able to trail up and ideally lob into the 1-1 position. I can’t fault the horse - he hasn’t taken a backward step and we know he likes the 1200m. He will have to be at his best to turn the tables on Giga Kick, but he is a quality horse and we expect him to be amongst the chances late in the piece.
DANGERS: 8. GIGA KICK, 5. VILANA, 9. AFT CABIN
Ghaanati is a very underrated filly. She has had some issues, but we hope that is now all in the past. She is more than capable of being competitive in a race like this, and with the soft draw, it was only logical to send her north for this race.
DANGERS: 9. EXTREMIST, 10. SIEGE
Simply forget Unspoken’s last start after he was was poleaxed at the 300m while coming into the race. I thought he showed a lot of tenacity in the way he picked up and finished off. He is a horse that continues to show a lot of promise, even in his short time in Australia. I see him as a winning chance in this race.
DANGERS: 5. ESTADIO MESTALLA, 14. FLOATING
Billiondollarbaby heads to Scone with a horrible draw, but she needs to get her preparation underway. Saturday will see her dropping back to benchmark grade which is certainly a positive. Based on her work here at home and in her recent trial, if she gets a bit of luck in running, we expect to see her fighting out the finish.
DANGERS: 14. CHIEF CONDUCTOR, 2. SHALAILED
To His Credit heads to Kembla with a disgusting draw to overcome! I thought he was excellent first-up, in what was a luckless run. If he is able to find his feet from the wide draw, I expect him to be very strong late.
DANGERS: 7. STEP ASIDE, 8. SUMO STAR
Worth Avenue is a nice staying filly in the making. She is a filly that is still maturing, but has done everything right at home and in her trials to suggest she is ready to make her race debut. She will head to the paddock after this start for a nice break. She is a filly that we will take our time with and if we do, I think we will see her in some nice races in the future.
DANGERS: 4. CHOICE LEGEND, 3. BURNETT
Asva has competed well in city maidens previously and accordingly, has found himself with the top weight here. Despite the big weight, this looks to be an even race to kick start his campaign. He is a horse that is best at a mile so we expect to see him improve off whatever he does on Saturday.
DANGERS: 2. LEGISLATE, 9. HEMAN

Heman has been impressive at the trials. He is a horse that has been slow to mature, but he has been doing everything at home to suggest that he is ready to take the next step and head to the races.
DANGERS: 2. LEGISLATE, 1. ASVA

To The World is another of the stable’s first starters at Kembla on Saturday. His recent trial suggested that he needed some head gear, so we have opted to apply blinkers and expect to see an improvement on his trial. He has drawn awkwardly but we hope he will come in a few barriers with scratchings, but in any event is going to need some luck in running.
DANGERS: 2. LEGISLATE, 9. HEMAN, 1. ASVA
Invictus Lad heads to Kembla first-up with another bad draw. He is an on-speed runner so he may have to do a little work early. As with our other runners today, this is a jumping off point for his preparation, and he will improve of whatever he does here. His recent trial does suggest to me that he is ready to run well first-up.
DANGERS: 6. SURF ON TURF, 1. WINDSHADOW
Magadan returns to New South Wales after a luckless run in Brisbane last start. He has travelled home in good order, and I do think he has more talent than we got to see last start. I think he will be very competitive in a race like this, and we would like to see him head back to Queensland later in the Carnival.
DANGERS: 1. FAWKNER PARK, 10. ROSEIRRO
It’s a much smaller contingent for the stable this Saturday but hopefully we have a bit of luck. All the best to our connections.
A small team heads to Doomben this Saturday. Transatlantic aims to back up his impressive last start win in race five and Star Of Chaos takes on stablemate Brentwood in the last. Good luck to all connections! Gollan Racing Team
We’ll hope to keep the good times rolling and have a huge hand entered to do just that, headlined by ESTRIELLA in the Sunlight Classic, PRIDE OF JENNI doing battle in the Australian Cup, RUTHLESS DAME in the Emancipation, ASHRUN in the Tancred and ANOTHER WIL and BERKSHIRE SHADOW in the Doncaster Prelude. Good luck […]
